The concept behind the Dandaro Concert Series emerged over the past ten years through a music event organization led by Chaka that was initially called “Africville Productions”. Through Africville Productions, Chaka organized an annual Black History event called “Celebrating Difference” that showcased stellar headlining acts; including Juno-award winning groups K-OS, Zaki Ibrahim, and Adam Solomon and Tikisa; grandfather of Jamaican dub poetry, Mutabaruka; Zimbabwean Mbira master Stella Chiweshe and the eight-piece Earthquake Band; among others. Each show included a program of Ontario-based spoken word and dub poets, and aimed to deliver a hard-hitting line-up of socially conscious music that brought the politics to the party.
